17 Again

This movie is one that has to resonate with a lot of people. It’s the story we’ve all lived at some point in our lives and probably are still living as we grow through middle age and into our autumn years.

How many of us have made mistakes in our youth and only wish we could go back and hit the “replay” button and perhaps do things right the second time around, Well, that’s what this movie is all about. It’s about a former high school basketball star, Mike O’Donnell (who is played by Matthew Perry) who gave up his dreams of playing in the pros in order to marry his girlfriend and raise their child.

Well, Mike has some regrets. It’s 20 years since those high school basketball days, and his marriage is in a shambles. He’s in a dead-end job, and his kids even think he’s a loser. Sound familiar, Well, unlike us, Mike gets the chance to go back in time and correct those past mistakes. He gets the chance to see what life would have been like had he played things differently. But, he makes an interesting discovery, and that is that by changing his past, he could very well be jeopardizing both his present and his future. Mike learns that maybe things in life happen for a reason and sometimes it is best not to question, but rather just try to make the most of our circumstances and live in the moment.

This was a wonderful film that teaches a lot of great lessons about life. It’s one you might even want to enjoy with your children.
