Aquarium Plants: Real or Fake,

When selecting plants to put in your aquarium, sometimes it is really difficult to decide whether to buy real or fake plants. To help you decide, here is some information about real and fake plants. Hope this one will help you in making the right decision in choosing the kind of plants in your aquarium.

When setting up an aquarium, plants are a very significant addition. They provide the fish places to seek solace and serve as shelter. Moreover, if you have live bearing fishes, plants provide the babies a place to hide until they grow, and are large enough to enter the community. Also, plants give the aquarium a very natural look.

Fake plants have more benefits over live plants. They require little maintenance and although they have a possibility to grow algae, they can be removed and cleaned when needed. Fish will not eat fake plants and they do not lose their look, while live plants may become misshapen or overgrown. However, there are certain negative aspects in using fake plants. First, they provide no chemical advantage to the water. Second, they are easily covered by algae if you have an algae problem. Finally, aggressive fish may try to eat them, and if a piece breaks off, it can choke the fish, though this is rare.

On the other hand, live plants give a completely realistic look to your aquarium. They provide more oxygen to the water and utilise the nitrates that the fish produce, which are dangerous to the fish. Moreover, some fish love to eat plants, and live plants can be a nutritious snack for these fish.
