Autistic spectrum disorder



This disorder, called Autistic spectrum disorder is a condition which can be present for lifetime and the major affect is on the communication of the person. The patients lose sense of the world around them, and the perspective changes. This term, Autistic spectrum disorder is used to refer to a group of issues and the name also includes spectrum, which is because of a varied effect from person to person. The word autistic would mean a disability for learning. The causes of this condition are still not known and should come out with the ongoing research. The current conclusion has been drawn that, it’s a genetic factor which plays the major role and in some cases, there are evidences to say that the environment also plays a part here. As per the statistics, there are almost 1 out of 100 people in the UK suffering from the ASD. The disease also affects the males, almost four times more than it affects the women. As of now, there is no cure for the disease and with future breakthroughs, it may become a possibility.

Characteristics

The behavior of the patient varies from person to person. There could be patients who simply sit alone and don’t mix up with anyone and there could be lot of folks, living their lives normally but considered different by their peers due to their activities. There are some categories drawn around, which would see people as having problem with social interaction, problem with communication and people with problem in routine behavior. The normal behavioral differences are seen in the first three years of the child’s years. The ASD diagnosed people are prone to lack in intelligence and only 4% would have some kind of exceptional skill in them.

Causes

The causes are still not clear but then there are genetic link to the trouble, and also some environmental factors associated to the disorders at times. Some reasons could due to lack of oxygen during birth, complication of an infectious illness, tuberour sclerosis.

Diagnosis

This the most important factor to diagnose the problem correctly. The problem is aggravated since the diagnose is not simple and also it could vary from person to person. There are lots of areas where a kid can get help with doctor asking for a child psychiatrist, psychologist, pediatrician or a special diagnosis team. In adults it happens when as kids they grow up without the condition being noticed and then at the later stages it shows up. There are lots of support groups for the same purpose that should be able to help them.

Treatment

Currently there is no treatment available. There are support groups for the condition and also some interventions which could prove to be useful. There could be special school which may be needed for a kid diagnosed with ASD, which would provide that extra support to the child. Communication groups also help a lot in a way, to develop the conditions of the kids in a better man, with providing visual aids, and learning symbolic term which would help the child to be able to communicate, which with time can improve their understanding. Though there are no medications available for treatment here.
