Carla Bruni

Carla Bruni was born Carla Gilberta Bruni Tedeschi in Turin, Italy on 23 December 1967, heiress to a tyre manufacturing company CEAT which was sold to Pirelli in the 1970s. Carla’s family moved to France when she was seven to escape the risk of kidnapping by the Red Brigades. She attended boarding school in Switzerland and then moved to Paris to study architecture and art, but left to become a model when she was nineteen.

Carla signed with City Models and she went onto to work with the biggest names in the fashion industry, being listed in the top twenty highest-paid models, earning over $7 million a year. During this time she dated Eric Clapton and Mick Jagger.

In 1997, Carla made a career move to music penning the words of seven tracks on French singer Julien Clerc’s album ‘Si j’etai elle’. In 2002, Carla brought out her own album ‘Quelqu’un m’a dit’ that proved successful across Europe. She is still involved in music and is currently working on her fourth album.

Carla married Nicolas Sarkozy in 2008 and took French citizenship. As First Lady of France, she accompanies her husband on state visits and is involved with many charities. She works with the wife of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikha Mozah, on the subject of education promotion and plans to work with Michelle Obama on the topic of AIDS.

Carla has a son Aurelien from her relationship with Raphael Enthoven.
