Choosing a vintage wedding dress for the big day

Vintage wedding dresses are bridal dresses that were created between the 1920s through to the 1980s. A vintage wedding dress before the 1920s would be an antique wedding dress and a later gown from the 1980s would be a retro bridal gown.

The main reason for brides to choose a vintage gown is because they want to feel unique on their big day. Wearing a bridal gown that no one else will wear is every bride’s dream. You know that your gown will be unique to you. When looking for vintage gowns you need to do lots of research to find boutiques that sell authentic vintage gowns.

Some brides look at 1950s fashion for wedding dresses as this was a special era for fashion. Although the 1950s were not vintage you can still find authentic vintage wedding dresses from that era. There are some vintage wedding dress companies that specialise in dresses from past eras so you will not be disappointed with the choice available.

You might get laughter when you mention to family and friends that you are looking for a vintage gown. This reaction is normal because people tend to immediately think you want something from the Victorian era. However vintage also means swinging 60s and the funky 70s where bright colours and bold patterns were the height of fashion. You could even have a 70s themed wedding where all your guests get involved.

Joking and fun aside the most important thing to remember is that the bride wants to feel a million dollars on her big day. This is only possible if you choose something that reflects your personality and you as a person. If you pick the wrong dress you will not feel comfortable.

If you decide to go vintage then your whole wedding theme should be vintage. By involving all your guests it will make your day truly perfect.
