Choosing Wedding Flowers for the Mothers

Giving away a child in marriage is a huge, life-changing event. The women that raised you and your spouse are especially emotional as you get ready to make this huge life change. While they are not the centre of attention of the day, it’s important to recognise all they have done for you both in your early years. Choosing special flowers can help make them feel loved and cherished on the day of your nuptials.

Unlike the rest of the wedding party, the mother and mother-in-law don’t necessarily have to coordinate with the bride and her attendants. When it comes to creating outfits for the mothers, the biggest rule is to not compete with, or draw attention away from, the happy couple. This means avoiding extremes of any sort, whether in colour or style.

Beyond that, all bets are off. Allow the mothers to choose not only their attire according to their tastes and figures, but also their flowers. Almost no woman gives away a child without a good deal of life experience. This means that they have been through the trenches! After all the heartache that being a parent entails, the least you can do is let the mums choose their own corsage. Even if everybody else is wearing roses, let her show up in tulips if that makes her feel pretty. Picking the same flower as the party in the colour of her choice is also a good compromise. Either way, allowing the mothers of the bride and groom flexibility on the wedding day is a great way to honour the support and sacrifices that they have made through the years.
