Coping With Loss

Everyone reacts differently to losing someone we love but it is without a doubt one of the most traumatic experiences that anyone has to deal with in their life. When you are a teenager, the despair you feel may seem unmanageable and you might think that you will never feel normality again. However, it is all about finding a way to cope. You will grieve for your loss but eventually you will accept that you still have a life to lead.

It is probably best to find a way to be honest about how you are feeling with the people in your life. If you don’t feel like talking, they will understand. You will be feeling a whole host of emotions and it is best to just accept them. Your feelings will probably change regularly and will involve some, if not all, of the following: grief, sadness, guilt, loneliness, doubt, anger, shock, tension, frustration, relief and numb.

Slowly, you will find a way to let your feelings show. Find a family member or friend that you can talk to about how you are feeling. If you still feel that you cannot talk about it, why not try keeping a diary, It is important that you find a way to let those feelings out. You could also consider speaking to a counsellor who is trained to help you deal with your grief.

However, it is important not to give yourself a hard time. There is no magic timescale to deal with a loss. You will get there in your own way, in your own time.
