Daniel Craig

Actor

Daniel was born on 2nd March 1968 in Chester. His mother Olivia was a teacher and his father a merchant sailor and pub landlord and Daniel and his sister were brought up on the Wirral. At the age of 16, he moved to London to join the National Youth Theatre and later attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

His early roles were on television and he appeared in dramas such as ‘Our Friends in the North’ and ‘Moll Flanders’. He had a role in the film ‘Lara Croft: Tomb Raider’ and it was his work on ‘Layer Cake’ in 2004 that brought him to the attention of the Bond series’ producers. Other high profile roles have included ‘Munich’ in 2005 and ‘The Golden Compass’ in 2007.

He accepted the role of James Bond in 2005 and there was some public criticism about his suitability mainly due to the physical differences between Daniel and other Bonds, but his predecessors publicly supported him. He is the first actor to play the role who was born after the death of creator Ian Fleming and the first blond Bond. ‘Casino Royale’ was released in 2006 and Daniel’s portrayal is much closer to Fleming’s creation than has been previously seen. The film is the second highest grossing film of the franchise and confirmed that the producers made the right choice.

In 1992 Daniel married actress Fiona Loudon and they have a daughter. The couple divorced in 1994 and he is now in a relationship with film producer Satsuki Mitchell.
