Fundraising Ideas for Volunteers

Many young travellers are attracted to the idea of volunteering abroad, but what a lot of potential applicants don’t realise is that even though you will be working it can cost quite a large sum of money to sign up with an organisation. But if what you are about to spend your money on is a worthwhile adventure, you will be surprised how many people will be willing to support you. There are a few different ways to publicise your cause and get more people’s support.

Tying your fundraising venture in with a themed event will attract more support. Parties, live concerts and anything where people are going to enjoy themselves will also prove lucrative for your fundraising venture.
There is also the option of more daring tasks, such as parachuting or bungee jumping, that people will be willing to give you money for if it is for a good cause. Of course, the less dangerous events, such as a sponsored head shave or a mass silence gathering could also be considered.

But what you should do before you plan any event is to enlist the help of a large company or organisation who may be interested in sponsoring you for your volunteering placement. A local school or council may also be able to help you.

As always, the most reliable way to save money for your volunteering trip is to put a regular amount into your own savings. You can also sell off your unwanted items on the internet or at a car boot sale.
