GCSE Choices – Business Studies



Another new GCSE arrival: Business Studies was certainly not on offer 10 years ago, but now it is thought that offering a much wider choice of subjects means that more students remain engaged and interested in the education system. Business Studies was available from A level onwards, but now a lower level version has been introduced at GCSE level, which gives the budding entrepreneur a chance to get involved in the world of business from a younger age.

The course is broken down into six main areas, and there is an examination at the end of the two-year course. Firstly, Aims and Organisation looks at the way people can run businesses, from working as a sole trader to being part of a very large organisation, and identifies why it is important for businesses to have a series of aims in order for them to focus and remain buoyant in the market place. You can then look at the Business Environment and Finances, which again are key to running a successful business and understanding these well can aid you in all aspects of your life, whether you want to run your own company or be a higher flier in someone else’s company.

Marketing, People in Business and Production are the last three areas of study, and again these need to be understood for a business to be successful. How are you going to attract customers and make sure you are producing a product of quality,
