Grumpy Old Men ‘(TV Series) Review

‘Grumpy Old Men ‘is a conversational, comedy and reality show on British TV. It was first aired in the year 2003 with four episodes, and then replayed during the making of the second series. The second series also had four episodes and was shown in 2004. Both series one and two had Christmas specials and were followed by the third series that was aired approximately a year later in April, 2006. All the series, even the replayed episodes of the first one, gained a positive reception among viewing audiences. The RTE produced its Irish version entitled ‘Gaybo’s Grumpy Men’ in 2005. The set shows some famous middle-aged men chatting about several contemporary issues that irritate them —from the creation of umpteen traffic signs to excessive mobile phone conversations. Because of the success of ‘Grumpy Old Men’, there came the ‘Grumpy Old Women’ Christmas special. This was shown in a full series in 2005, which features middle-aged women chatting about pet hates. On June 18, 2006, the ‘Grumpy Old Holidays’ was first aired, featuring the Grumpy Old Men/Women. Some issues they talk about are their frustrations in packing and travelling via aircraft. The series was accompanied by Stuart Prebble’s book, ‘Grumpy Old Men: The Secret Diary’ and followed by ‘Grumpy Old Christmas’ that was published a year after the first book. Because of its success, many Liberty Bell TV producers have made other series that adopt the same set-up, like ‘He Says, She Says’ and ‘It’s Grim Up North’. At the IMDb, users’ comments weighted an average vote of 8.9.
