Hellboy II – The Golden Army

Considering the low revenues generated by the original Hellboy film released in 2004, it comes as a huge surprise that director Guillermo del Toro decided to come up with a sequel.

This film is surely not to be underestimated for its technical expertise and sequence of visual effects. The creators have taken care to build something impressive and lasting. However, not everyone will love this visual experience and depending on your movie tastes, you might either love or hate it.

If you are like me- fond of oddly designed and visually inspiring monster craziness, you will absolutely love this film. However for those of you who are not used to such a movie diet, I would like to strictly advise you to avoid this film to maintain your sanity and pleasant mood!

This version of Hellboy certainly beats the previous one in terms of creative expertise and a gripping storyline. A prince seeking revenge, Prince Nuada, looks for three pieces to a crown that will empower him to gain control of the formidable Golden Army that comprises of huge, round, gear-moving robots. Hellboy is summoned by the government, with his conventional touch of humour, to guard the third piece, which is under the control of Nuada’s sister, and bring the evil guy to the book before the completion of his splendid mission.

I found the characters pretty convincing with their power to leave an enduring impression on the audience. The universe created by this film also lends a powerful effect and succeeds in developing an interesting plot in a visually rich background.
