Hyperglycaemia II

Causes:
This condition is a result of the increase in the level of glucose in the blood. This state is caused due various reasons, a few are listed below:
Excessive exercising as compared to normal,
Due to being emotionally stressed,
Falling sick like having a throat infection or common cold,
A change in the medication,
A modification in the pattern of eating, or
A missed or wrong insulin dose.
Recently it has been proved that medications such as risperidone and olanzapine, which are in a few cases taken to treat bipolar disorder or schizophrenia, are at a higher risk of getting diabetes and hyperglycaemia. If these medications are being taken then the doctor should advice checking of the blood sugar levels regularly.
Diagnosis:
This is a condition which can be diagnosed on the bases of the symptoms which happen to be similar to that of people have not yet been treated for diabetes. The symptoms comprise of the following – getting tired very fast, feeling very thirsty, prone to infections very easily, for example thrush and passing of urine which is very often as compared to normal.
As a result if the doctor presumes that there are chances of you having hyperglycaemia, then the chemical levels like the salt that is the sodium chloride and the potassium and the glucose levels in the blood might be examined.
Treatment:
In case of diabetes of type one the treatment would be taking of insulin injections along with proper exercise and diet. The levels of blood sugar should also be checked constantly. To check the level of blood sugar a small, portable device is available which is known as the blood glucose meter.
If you suffer from type one diabetes then you know that the indications of the levels of glucose is very high when, you get tired very fast, you feel very thirsty and you pass urine very often. Then to bring down the sugar level in the blood the insulin level in the blood should be adjusted. In case the symptoms also comprise of feeling drowsy, nausea or vomiting then the doctor should be contacted.
In case of the other type of diabetes, a condition known as Hyperosmolar Non Ketotic Coma that is HONK could be develop, but the cases of hyperglycaemia are not very common. Due to decreasing sugar levels in the blood the body gets dehydrated and due to this the person has chances of also getting unconscious or also getting in to coma.
In this case the person should be hospitalised immediately so as to get treated for dehydration and the levels of chemicals like potassium, glucose and salt can also be stabilised. Hyperglycaemia could in a few cases occur in middle aged people like those who do not suffer from diabetes.
Prevention:
If you are suffering from the first type of diabetes, then to avoid it from arising, the need to manage your glucose level in the blood is the most important thing; this can be done by a proper diet and medication through tablets or injections, whichever is prescribed by the doctor.
It is very important that you do not skip or adjust the insulin dose and also a good diet that is proper intake of liquids and solids. It is also essential to check the glucose levels in the blood at regular intervals.
