I Shouldn’t be Alive

This was one of the best movies I’ve watched in quite a while. It’s not a work of fiction at all, but actually a reality-based documentary of sorts. It is a compiliation of a television serious of the same name that ran about a year or so on both American television as well as the networks of many other countries. In this 20-episode collection, ordinary people recount their stories of amazing bravery when they challenged the fates and emerged victorious in a variety of situations. Each story is accompanied by video footage and interviews illustrating the particular survivor’s story.

For example, we hear the tale of a group of sailor’s who braved shark-infested waters to save the life of one of their own who had fallen overboard. Their accounts of the drama show that often we don’t think of the consequences when faced with a choice of taking the easy way out or doing something impossible in the interest of our fellow man, especially when he is a close friend.

We also see the story of a father who risked his own life and limb to save his son who had gotten himself into trouble as only young kids can do.

Each one of the stories presented in this film is covered in detail with about 20 minutes devoted to each hair-raising tale. I enjoyed the DVD presentation immensely because it showed just what ordinary, everyday people can do when faced with extraordinary and potentially life-altering events.
