Mickey Rourke Used His Dead Dogs to Get in Character

When Mickey Rourke needed to tap his emotions on the set of “Iron Man 2,” he used photos of his dead dogs. Rourke plays villain Whiplash in the movie, which is due out in April in the UK and May in the USA. He reportedly asked the crew to have photos of his late Chihuahuas on hand for emotional scenes. “Iron Man 2” co-star Robert Downey Jr. told the Daily Express newspaper, “He would have someone holding pictures of recently deceased pets off camera to make him feel sad or whatever for a scene. It was all serious stuff. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Rourke, who was nominated for an Oscar and won a BAFTA for his role in “The Wrestler,” is also gaining attention these days for a commercial he appears in for Bavaria Non-Alcoholic Beer. In it, we see the actor checking into a hotel, ignoring the manger’s no-dog policy by stomping off to the bar with his Chihuahua. There, the bartender serves him a glass of Bavaria’s Non-Alcoholic Beer. Next we see a mini-fridge coming crashing down onto the pavement and Rourke comes stomping into the bar in his bathrobe, swearing and complaining about the non-alcoholic beer in the mini-fridge. The bartender simply smiles and pours him another of the same.

Rourke has also been busy lately with his current girlfriend, 24-year-old Russian model Anastassija Makarenko. They were recently spotted spending time at his home in New York.
