Perricone Diet



A wrinkle-free skincare diet instead of simply a weight-loss plan, the Perricone diet was designed to help prevent premature aging as well as obesity. US dermatologist Dr. Nicholas Perricone developed the diet after noticing that certain foods often caused inflammation and water retention in many patients. He theorized that by avoiding some foods and consuming others, people could help improve their skin and their overall health.

Dr. Perricone’s diet is a 28-day plan in which participants reduce their intake of saturated fats, refined sugars, and certain carbohydrates. Dr. Perricone recommends a 3-day trial initially to get an idea on how the diet will affect participants. Berries, cantaloupe, and wild or organic salmon are some of the mainstays of the first several days. Participants snack on almonds and hazelnuts and consume a large amount of spring water. Once the participants complete the first few days, their diet does become more varied.

Nutritionists are generally positive about this diet which has a nice array of healthy proteins and which boosts the consumption of Omega-3 containing seafood. Purchasing wild salmon can become expensive as can the array of supplements and topical treatments that Dr. Perricone prescribes. This can be an especially good diet plan for many women who are generally not consuming an adequate amount of lean proteins. By upping their protein consumption, they are virtually guaranteed to feel more energetic and revitalized. While not designed specifically as a weight-loss plan, many participants have lost weight on this plan in addition to improving their skin.
