Signs of Sexually Transmitted Diseases

Though every sexually transmitted disease has its own pattern and symptoms, there are some common symptoms to look for. Please keep in mind that some sexually transmitted diseases show very little, if any symptoms at all. The best way to avoid a sexually transmitted disease is to abstain from sex. Even with the use of protective devices, there is no guarantee that you will not catch an STD.

Some of the common symptoms women may experience when infected will be a change in her vaginal discharge or urination including a change in colour, smell or frequency. There may also be some skin irritation in the vaginal area, which may include itching, burning or swelling. Contact your doctor immediately if you have any symptoms, but do not assume that you do not have an STD just because you are not displaying symptoms.

Men may experience some similar symptoms as women do. The presence of swelling, irritation, itching, painful urination and discharge are common symptoms of an STD. Again, there are often no symptoms at all. If you do experience any symptoms, be sure to contact your doctor immediately. Also keep in mind that just because there are no symptoms, that does nt mean there is no problem so be sure to schedule regular checkups.

Keep in mind that some of the STDs that have the worst effects on the body are the ones that display minor or no symptoms at all. Infertility is only one of the long-term effects that STDs can have. Some of them will even result in death, so be sure to make frequent visits to your doctor and behave responsibly.
