Signs Your Bird Is Sick

In the wild, most species of pet birds are prey animals. This means that if they showed themselves to be sick, then they would get the attention of predators thinking they were easy to catch. Therefore as soon as you notice your bird exhibiting any signs of illness or alarming change of normal behaviour, please visit the vet at once.

Change Of Feathers

If your pet bird is going bald or always has its feathers ruffled, then something is wrong. Birds will look strange when they are moulting, but their feathers lay smoothly over most of their body at this time. A bird over-grooming or plucking out his own feathers is a bad sign.

Cere Problems

The cere is found right above the beak where the nostrils are. This is normally a dry area. This can get infected, red, swollen and runny. Be sure you know what the normal colour of your bird’s cere looks like when he or she is healthy. Any change will let you know that the bird is off-colour.

Clouds In the Eyes

Not only can the cere give off discharge and turn a strange colour when your bird is sick, but the eyes can, too. If they look cloudy or cottony, then your bird is really ill with any number of illnesses. This is a red neon sign that your bird has to go to the vet immediately.

Loss of Appetite

Especially if your bird is usually a hearty eater. This is often a sign of impacted gut.
