Solving Child’s Behavioural Problems

A child’s behavioural problem is often observed at home, but it can also be manifested at school. There are certain problems occurring at school which are not present at home and vice versa. In order for the parents to determine their child’s behaviour problems at school, they must work hand in hand with teachers to find solutions. This will help the child cope with the problem. By doing a step- by-step process, it will be much clearer for the parents to understand the problem with the teacher’s help.

Here are some simple ways on how to solve children’s behavioural problems. First, make a list of the child’s conduct at home and cite some examples. Next, set up a personal meeting with the teacher to discuss different concerns about the child’s situation. Share with the teacher the information on your list, and the teacher must share his/her own observations as well. Work together by identifying the causes that trigger the child’s negative behaviour, and prioritise the behaviour that needs urgent action. Then, create possible strategic solutions, and set up specific routines and procedures. Remember to set a meeting with the teacher a week after to discuss any progress on the actions taken. If there are no changes, try to find other methods and continue the process until the behavioural problems are solved. During this time, patience and teamwork are the two most important attitudes that parents and teachers must possess. Additionally, open and constant communication between the parent and the teacher is important for a more effective outcome. Always be consistent with the plan; however, try to implement changes, if necessary.
