Stop Smoking Without Chemical Aids

With all of the smoking cessation products and aids available today, many people are reluctant to quit smoking without these artificial products. However, natural smoking cessation programs are just as effective as, and less costly than, programs based on gum, lozenges, patches and inhalers.
The basis of a natural smoking cessation program is pure willpower. In order for the program to work, the smoker must have the mindset to resist cravings, regardless of how powerful the cravings become.
Finding ways to distract from the cravings is the best way to make it through the cravings. A woman may choose to paint her fingernails in lieu of having a smoke. A man may opt to whittle a knickknack. In either case, the key is to find something to keep the hands busy and the mind occupied.
Another way to stop smoking naturally is by using cleverly planned snacks. Certain foods alter the way cigarettes taste, which may make them unappealing. For example, every time you want a cigarette, drink a glass of milk or brush your teeth. If you opt to have a cigarette after either of those, the taste will be altered.
Chewing mint flavoured gum has also been proven to help smokers stop smoking naturally. A study by the Mayo Clinic states that this is due to an oral sensation produced by the gum that is similar to that of smoking cigarettes.
Having a good support system is the last consideration for a natural cessation program. This support system should be made up of close friends, family members and other former smokers who can give you moral and physical support throughout the cessation program.
