Top 10 Classic Films



There were a lot of great movies made between the 30s and 60s but we have to narrow it down and these ten take the prize.

10. On the Waterfront
The winner of eight Academy Awards Marlon Brando shines in this film about corruption. There is social and political commentary, moving moments and so much tension you need something to sink your teeth into while watching it.

9. Lawrence of Arabia
A great epic masterpiece. Intrigue, drama, war, this movie has it all. Peter O’Toole was amazing and his blue eyes stand out beneath that head wrap so bright that you are completely engrossed in every word he says.

8. West Side Story
One of the best musicals of all time. It’s the retelling of Romeo and Juliet but set in the streets between two ethnic cultures. This story has been redone numerous times but none were nearly as good as the original choreography posing the Jets against the Sharks and Natalie Wood as the damsel in distress.

7. Vertigo
You may get very dizzy watching this film. Hitchcock created a masterpiece with this mystery and it will have your head spinning in more ways than one. It’s is full of twists, turns and engrossing intrigue.

6. Citizen Kane
While it’s a little long it is still a film school staple and must see for Orson Welles fans. Watch for all the little details as it is one of those movies you have to see several times to really appreciate.

5. A Streetcar Named Desire
Marlon Brando shows us why he became such an instant star with his performance in this movie. It’s edgy, rough and makes you think twice about your own problems.

4. The Wizard of Oz
The best musical of all time. It was made for the entire family and even to this day everyone knows the tunes and still dress up like the characters for Halloween. The music was perfect, the characters delightful and the tale a combination of fantasy and reality. It touches your heart and makes you both smile and frown.

3. Gone With the Wind
Will Rhett and Scarlett end up together, That is the ongoing saga set amid the battle torn country during the Civil War. There is drama, romance, suspense and even a few moments of sheer delight.

2. Casablanca
Legendary lines. Memorable scenes. Incredible characters. What more could you ask for,

Frank Capra’s winter classic is a movie to be cherished by everyone. It makes you think about your life and what you would do if you went back in time and changed things. It also makes you appreciate what you have and hold those you love a little more closely. It is the simple most inspirational movie of all time. A true gem!
