Andy Murray, Tennis Player

Andy Murray was born on May 15, 1987 in Dunblane, and is the son of William and Judy. His mother is a tennis coach and his older brother, Jamie, is also a professional tennis player. He is 6’3” and is the highest ranked British player since Fred Perry, reaching number two in the World Rankings in August 2009.
He first played tennis at the age of two. Along with his brother, he entered many junior competitions as a child, and won the Orange Bowl Tournament in Florida at the age of 12. When he was 15, he decided that training at home, with his brother, was not enough. He moved to Spain to train at the Sanchez-Casal Academy and attended an International school, even though his dedication to tennis meant that he would leave school with no qualifications.
In 2004, he won the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year and the US Open Boys title. Andy turned professional in 2005 and became Britain’s youngest Davis Cup player. When he beat Lleyton Hewitt to win his first ATP tournament in 2006, he fought his way through the crowds to kiss his girlfriend. During his professional career he has won 14 tournaments and in 2008 made it to the finals of the US Open, but was beaten by Roger Federer. His highest placing at Wimbledon has been the semi-finals in 2009.
Andy’s hobbies include football and playing golf. In 2005, he met Kim Sears, the daughter of tennis coach Nigel, and the couple have been dating since.
