Argentine Dogo – Dog Breed Information and Pictures



The Argentine Dogo is also commonly called the Argentinean Mastiff or the Dogo Argentino. Their origins are from Argentina. They were bred to protect people from large dangerous animals such as cougars or anything else that would attack or hunt humans.

The original blood line came from the Cordoba Fighting Dog which is now extinct. These were very large and quite fierce. Not only were they great fighters as their names suggest but they were also brilliant hunters. They were cross bred with other valuable dogs that had essential attributes like bulldogs, boxers, wolfhounds and the Great Dane.

The Argentine Dogo is a large white dog. This is a very strong and powerful breed. Their structures are muscular and fit and they were bred for big game hunting. Their fur coats are short and smooth. One of the most noticeable visual characteristics is the sheer athletic tone of this canine.

The temperament and natural ability is very versatile in the Argentine Dogo. This dog has a very high pain tolerance which makes them an excellent hunter and defender of people. Their senses are keen and this breed is highly intelligent so they have had jobs in law enforcement as well as duties in various branches of the military. They are brave and loyal which is a tremendous asset to people with disabilities. The Argentine Dogo is also willing to please and is a loving animal so a role as a companion or as a family pet is also possible.
