Cardigan Welsh Corgi – Dog Breed Information and Pictures

The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is one of two types of Welsh Corgi, originating from Wales. The other is known as the Pembroke Welsh Corgi. While the Pembroke is more popular, the Cardigan Welsh Corgi is still a lovable pet. In fact, they are considered one of the oldest breeds, especially when comparing them to other herding dog breeds. The Cardigan Welsh Corgi has a few nicknames to shorten their moniker. They are often known as the Cardi, Cardigan or CWC for short. Though it cannot be completely verified, Cardigan Welsh Corgis are said to have been around for over 3,000 years.

Cardigan Welsh Corgis are famous for the way that they look. Their body is very long while their legs are very short. This doesn’t slow them down, though. While they may have proportions different from most dogs, they still made successful livestock herding dogs. They could protect the herd while moving them from one place to another. Not only are they good working dogs, but they also make a good family companion. They are very smart and are quick to learn new tricks. They are affectionate and are devoted to their family. They are wary of strangers so they need some time to grow to trust a new person. They will bark to alert their owners in case of intruders.
