Cheryl Cole

Cheryl Ann Tweedy was born in Newcastle-on-Tyne, England on 30th June 1983 and was brought up on a council estate where crime and heroin addiction was common. As a child she took ballet lessons and won many modelling competitions, including those run by Boots Group and Mothercare.

Cheryl auditioned for’ Popstars: The Rivals’ and along with Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh formed the new girl-band Girls Aloud, a group formed by public vote in November 2002. Their debut single ‘Sound of the Underground’ was released and charted at the top of the UK’s Singles Chart becoming that year’s Christmas No 1.

Girls Aloud went on to earn £25 million by 2009, enjoying a string of No1 singles and albums. That same year the group announced that they were going to take a year’s break to pursue solo projects but would reunite in 2010 to record an album and possibly tour.

Cheryl became a judge on the TV programme ‘The X-Factor’ in 2008, and was the victorious mentor of winner Alexandra Burke. Replacing Sharon Osbourne, Cheryl has been dubbed by the media as the nation’s sweetheart. She has also enjoyed a successful solo music career with a Number 1 album and single.

In 2009, Cheryl was voted best-dressed woman of the year and style icon of the decade in a poll run by television channel The Style Network.
