Christian Bale, Actor

Christian Bale was born on January 30, 1974 in Haverfordwest, Wales. His father, David, was a commercial pilot and his mother, Jenny James, was a circus performer. Christian has three sisters and the family moved around a great deal. His parents eventually split up and Christian became the stepson of feminist icon Gloria Steinem in 2000 when his father remarried.
Christian was a child star, working on commercials, taking small parts in various dramas, and he appeared on stage in London’s West End with Rowan Atkinson. At the age of 12, Steven Spielberg cast him in ‘Empire of the Sun’, about the life of a young boy during the war years. It was a role that won him critical acclaim. When his parents separated he had the choice of remaining in the UK or moving to America. He moved to America and praise for his acting skills has continued to come his way.
In 2000 he was cast in ‘American Psycho’, but the role was taken away and given to Leonardo DiCaprio, only to be given back to Christian when Leonardo chose another project. He became the youngest and first non-American actor to play Batman when he appeared in ‘Batman Begins’ in 2005. The sequel ‘The Dark Knight’ has become one of the highest grossing films of all time.
He met his wife, Sibi, at a barbecue given by Winona Ryder. The former model and make-up artist had been working as a personal assistant to the actress. The couple married in 2000 and have one child.
