Cirneco dell’Etna – Dog Breed Information and Pictures

The Cirneco dell’Etna is a hound that originated in Sicily. This medium-sized breed had its face engraved on coins which place the breed back to ancient times. It is likely they have been around for thousands of years and can be dated back to the B.C. era.

This is a hunting dog and excels in hunting rabbits. The fact that it has survived for as long as it has says a lot about the hardiness and skills of this type of canine. The Cirneco dell’Etna has an advantage over most other breeds because it can go without food and water for extended periods of time.

The elegant breed of the Cirneco dell’Etna has a lean body which allows for swift movements. The tail is low but raised when the dog is alert. The hair is sleek, short and smooth all over the body. The hair is straight and stiff but lies flat and glossy. Typically this breed only has one characteristic colour, fawn or pale yellowish brown, but this can range from very dark or very light shades. White markings may or may not be present and when they are, they tend to be confined to the tip of the tail, chest, belly, feet and head.
