Clinical Trials.

Definition:
Clinical trail is the term used in the field of medical science, for research projects where new medicines or medical techniques are tested. IT might also include testing the old medicine or techniques to know how good they are and also to compare with the newer inventions.
Why is it done,
Well without research we will not be able to answer some of the diseases which still affect the human population, to give a brief idea
Clinical trials help to prevent new disease – by researching potent vaccines for a particular disease the occurrence of the disease can be prevented.
Helps to minimize the side effects of a treatment or procedure- by clinical trial one can know the limit of a treatment or a procedure thus preventing unnecessary side effects.
Helps healthy people- By a clinical trial on type of diet and lifestyle habit, it sheds some light on what can be practiced in day to day life to keep ourselves healthy.
Provides newer treating modalities – This is the prime aspect of clinical trial ,where the latest modalities not only cure the patient but reduce the time spent in hospital or recovering from illness.

How is it done,
Clinical trials are run on a tightly controlled protocol, there are no exemptions are adjustment every set of rules are primarily laid and these rules have to be stuck till the end of the trails. This is very necessary to stop the bias of the interpretation of the trails and also to ensure safety of the people involved.
If a new medication is tested it should first undergo trails in lab and then on animals to prove that it is safe and the side effects are very minimal when used on people.
The method of the clinical trails involves a lot of stages, the overview of any trail is
Entering into a trail:
This is the entry point where pt is selected depending on their condition and also various other factors which satisfy the clinical trial outlines for ex: age, sex, previous medications, etc.

IT is then discussed with the pt if they are interested in entering a clinical trial and everything about the trail is explained, important thing is the pt should understand every details its effects both good and harmful only then they can proceed to next stage.

Getting a consent :
This is the most important part; no pt can enter the consent without a written consent by them stating everything regarding the trail is clearly understood.

Starting the trail:
Once the pt has agreed then the trail can be started, strict monitoring and any changes, favorable or non favorable effects of the trail is noted sometimes the doctor who monitors the trail will be unaware of which pt is on trail and who is not , this is done to prevent observers bias on results.

Ending trail.
Doctor can decide whether a pt should stop undergoing the trail if they are deteriorating and the trail can be stopped, if not the trail takes it course and ends depending upon the time frame or objectives set by the trail team.
