Clumber Spaniel – Dog Breed Information and Pictures

The Clumber Spaniel originated in England. They belong to the gundog group, typically used in hunting and retrieving. This breed of dog is versatile and can help a hunter on land or in the water.

This is also one breed that tends to grow very fast. Even once they are adults they can gain weight rapidly so an owner must monitor the food intake and allow the dog plenty of exercise. The Clumber Spaniel is an active breed and this must be recognised early on. They need a lot of time running, playing and hunting. Some would consider them high maintenance due to the amount of exercise and the grooming requirements.

The body of the Clumber Spaniel is quite substantial due to its heavy-boned physique. The head is large and relatively short. Their fur coat is straight, silky, soft and thick. The colours tend to be all white with markings in a yellow or orange colour.

The Clumber Spaniel can be clumsy. They are also very sweet and loving and require a lot of affection to be happy. If the dog is introduced to cats and other dogs at a young age then they will be compatible and content with them. However, if they are grouped with them without ever having been socialised with these other animals, they tend to not get along. Their temperament depends to some degree on that of their owner. Passive owners will mostly experience a strong-willed Clumber Spaniel while domineering owners will tend to experience a docile Clumber Spaniel.
