Coton de Tulear – Dog Breed Information and Pictures

The Coton de Tulear originated in Tulear in Madagascar as the name indicates. Its name also refers to the cotton like texture of this small dog’s coat.

The most obvious feature of the dog is the coat, which is very fluffy. At first glance the Coton de Tulear would appear to be silky and smooth but it is actually soft and cottony. This breed is rather dainty; they do not have a well-muscled body. The main colours of the coat can come in tri-coloured hair, white and black. (Pure white is preferred by breeders.) Combinations of these colours are typical as well as small markings on the ears that are usually a yellow shade.

This breed is very friendly and gentle. Due to its size, the Coton de Tulear can not actually do any harm to predators or people but they do make a lot of noise when danger is near or a threat in present. They are alert and are commonly used as sweet-looking guard dogs.

The Coton de Tulear is dedicated to the family and the home in which it lives. It constantly wants to please its owner and will do anything to make then happy. They are also highly sociable and can get a long well with other animals including dogs and are especially affectionate toward children. They do need a reasonable amount of activity and also careful regular grooming.
