The Dandie Dinmont Terrier originated in Scotland. This breed is very rare and some believe that it might soon become extinct. It is named after a fictional character.
This is a unique dog that is very low to the ground. The structure is long and curved with a distinct head. They are around ten inches tall and typically weigh under twenty-five pounds. They are a hardy breed that has strong bones and muscles.
The fur coat of the Dandie Dinmont Terrier is double layer. There are only two primary colours that this breed comes in and they are known as mustard or pepper. Mustard tends to be a light fawn or auburn shade while the pepper tends to be a silver or bluish black. The top knot is always a pale or white colour. A very desirable quality of the Dandie Dinmont Terrier is that it is not a heavy shedding breed.
This breed is very affectionate. They are widely used as a friendly companion. The Dandie Dinmont Terrier is very happy most of the time but can become aggressive around other dogs. They are loyal and enjoy the human bond and crave interaction. This dog is good with children to a certain extent. If the children display mean tempers then the Dandie Dinmont Terrier can relay the same. For this reason all children and babies should be watched carefully around these dogs and should never be left unattended.
