Dysentery

This is a condition which can lead the patient to severe Diarrhoea. Dysentery is an infection and can occur due to poor hygiene. This infection has been classified into two types – amoebic and bacillary dysentery. The bacillary type is quite a common type seen around in the country. This is majorly an outcome of the bacteria which has four species. These may enter the body and multiply though the bowel. They may enter the patient through mouth and also are responsible to cause multiple symptoms. Most people would complain of a mild condition. The condition can result in fatal consequences in case proper medication is not provided on time.

Symptoms

The patients may see some symptoms which would take almost three days to surface and then can continue up to seven days. They may have fever, depression in some cases, and feeling of being sick, vomiting at times, quite watery stools and abdominal pains. The other type of condition, caused by amoeba shows no symptoms for months before surfacing and then starts to snowball as the person infects the surroundings with their poor hygiene. They may see blood spills during Diarrhoea and pain in passing the stool.

Causes

This spreads from person to person from people who do not maintain proper hygiene which can include poor toilets conditions, not washing ones hands properly. Also it has been seen that contaminated water can also cause this condition. The body which has been affected by it can also pass it on to others up to four weeks after being infected. The food also becomes a medium of causing dysentery and is common in countries with poor sanitation.

Diagnosis

The doctor may be able to diagnose the condition with the stool samples of the patient. Basically they would need to find out the presence of the bacteria which is responsible for this condition. The doctors may also want to do an ultrasound of the patient to find out the related conditions to it, like ulcers caused by dysentery. This is also something which would be highlighted across the area with the help of administration since the disease can very easily spread to people around.

Treatment

The patient would be given lot of drinks and fluids which should be able to fulfil the salts and water content lost during Diarrhoea. Drinking plenty of water and other required fluids will stop the dehydration of the patients’ body and help in sustaining levels. If the condition of the patient gets critical, they may be given an intravenous drip at the hospital to control the loss of water in the body. The condition normally is for a smaller period of time and is cured within a short period of time, that’s why the doctor may not want to prescribe antibiotics, but for cases where it does not clean up by itself, they may be forced to give a antibiotic dosage.
