Equipment for Setting up Your Fish Tank

Keeping an aquarium of fish at home is indeed an inspiring and creative hobby. Once you choose fish as your pets, you will definitely enjoy taking care of them. However, before bringing the fish to your home, you have to gather all the needed equipment for your fish tank. Here are the tools you will need to construct a good aquarium.

First, you should have a fish tank with a stand. Remember that a bigger fish tank is easier to clean and is wide enough for all the fish. Also, choose a stand that can support the weight of the fish tank when filled with water. It should also have a closed drawer for the tools and supplies.

Purchase an aquarium filter. There are two kinds of aquarium filters that are available in the market — waterfall filters and gravel filters. The waterfall filters circulate and pump back water into the fish tank, after the removal of the wastes from the process.

Gravel filters give proper ventilation through air stones while removing the wastes underneath the gravel. These filters also have carbon filtration cartridges that maintain good quality of the water.

Next, you must have a light hood to also serve as a lid for the fish tank. This provides an artificial light and adds an attractive look to your aquarium. This is a basic requirement, especially if you want to grow plants in your aquarium.

If you plan to keep tropical fish instead of goldfish, you need a heater and a thermometer. Tropical fish normally need a temperature at about 77 degrees. The size of the heater should also be similar to the size of your fish tank.
