Five Ideas for Realistic Aquarium Background Decoration

In decorating fish tanks or aquariums, if you want it to be realistic, it is important to decide on the rocks, gravel, decorations, plants, and driftwood that you will be using. You must also choose the appropriate type of background to maximise the realism of your aquarium.

Here are five ideas which could help you in creating your fish tank background. First is the use of plastic printed papers, which come in different patterns. They are taped on the back, outside the aquarium, with the image facing inward. For fresh water aquariums, rock backgrounds are mostly used with plant designs as well. For saltwater, coral designs are suitable. Another choice is the use of snap-together rock walls if you prefer a rocky background. After assembling it to fit the sides of the aquarium, it is necessary to attach the wall using suction cups inside the fish tank. Next is the use of a plant wall with suction cups. This is made out of silk or plastic that usually mimics common aquatic plants. Their stems could be put together forming a sheet or net of plant leaves.

Aside from those three ideas mentioned above, you could also use a natural rock background like lightweight pebbles or thin stone slabs. To attach the rocks inside the back portion of an aquarium, you can use safe aquarium adhesives or sealants. Another option would be using a replica of aquarium plants or plastic plants, but choose those with large leaves, or those with feathery, long branches. It is also better if the plants vary to create a realistic impression of a riverbed or a lake.
