Grumpy Old Women Live’: The Final Performance and Reception

‘Grumpy Old Women’ does not just appear on the screen, although you can always watch them in the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) television series. They also have live stage shows, based on their TV series. How about watching them live on stage,

The idea of showing the ‘Grumpy Old Women’ live came about in the spring of 2005 when the TV series had already gained the viewers’ confidence and support. Thought up by Judith Holder, the producer, and Jenny Éclair, contributor, ‘Grumpy’ on live television was developed into a stage show. After preparatory tours, casting of characters and rehearsals, ‘Grumpy Old Women Live’ was performed on June 23, 2008. Dillie Keane, Jenny Éclair, and Linda Robson, the original cast of the series, reunited for that night for the much-awaited performance. The show was presented at the Richmond Theatre. All the performances were also filmed on DVD.

The final performance received acclaim from the viewers. ‘Grumpy Old Woman’ has been a hit not just to the masses, but to media organisations as well. ‘The Times’, the national daily newspaper, said that the live show is a slick evening of comedy, even if it is scripted. The tabloid regional newspapers being circulated in London commented that Grumpy Old Woman was more an uplifting performance than the Wonderbra. In addition to these comments, the first British tabloid newspaper, ‘The Daily Mail’, said that the show was especially made for women. According to these papers, the show is both a critical and commercial success.
