How to Prevent Scammers From Taking Control of Your Emails and Your Life

More people now have access to the Internet. In fact, in some European nations, access to the web is now a right. While this is indicative of progress, others are using it to commit crime. For those who steal credit card numbers or identities for a living, hacking a person’s email is one of the best ways to control that person’s accounts. Others do not even need to use hacking skills and only rely on your own vulnerabilities. A scammer, for example, can pretend to be your boss and he or she can tell you to login to your work account so he or she can see your password.

A scammer can also pretend to be someone close to you who by some circumstance needs to borrow a huge amount of money. He or she can also send you a virus or even threaten to show all your compromising photos to the world if you don’t pay up. Cyber criminals are creative and they have various ways to get money from you.

Create A New Email Account To Store All Your Passwords

To protect yourself from scammers, it is best to have multiple email addresses. One should be for personal use, another for work, one for public use i.e. an email that you can display online, and another for all your banking needs. You should also create a new account, albeit a secret one, that will keep all of your passwords and login information or at the very least, one that you can use to retrieve accounts that are already being controlled by a scammer.

Practical Advice

It is also advisable to never use public Wifi. Such systems are vulnerable and it exposes you to a lot of risk. If you have important information in your computer, it is also best to bolster your IT security.
