Hyperhidrosis II

Treatment:
There are various treatments to cure the problem of hyperhidrosis of both the types primary and also secondary.
To start off with antiperspirants are advised and in case the regular ones do not help the doctor would prescribe antiperspirant which contains aluminium chloride which is stronger as compared to the regular ones, as the openings of the sweat ducts are blocked with the use of this. Antiperspirants that contain aluminium chloride could be used on soles, armpits, palms and on the face too avoiding the area around the eyes. These antiperspirants are available at pharmacies and can be brought with a prescription.
Before you use the antiperspirants the area of application should be cleaned and should be dry, preferably it should be used before going to bed in the night as the sweat glands are not as active as during the day. The antiperspirants should be used once in 24 to 48 hours and the area of application should be clean and dry before reapplication. This can be used as long as required, but there are signs of improvement then the need of using it every day is not there, it can be used about three to four times a month, as it would aid in keeping the levels of sweat under control.
But if these antiperspirants do not help the depending on how severe the case is the doctor would advise you other alternatives, like the following:
Botulinum Toxin Injections: In this treatment several tiny injections are given immediately below the skin in the area that is affected so as to prevent the nerves which manage the sweat glands from operating. This procedure needs to be repeated in every few months else the effect would diminish and the problem could come back if not. In a few cases people tend to catch a minor flu kind of indications for about a day or two due to the injections, and also the region injected could also get painful for sometime like a few days after the injections are given.
Iontophoresis: in this treatment to obstruct the sweat glands electric stimulation is done. The areas which are affected are put in to water and a special machine is used to pass small electric current in to the water where the affected area is put. This generally requires around 3 to 4 sittings in a week each sitting would take as much as half an hour. In many cases there is improvement in about 6 to 10 sittings. This condition can be treated by small iontophoresis machines which are available for personal use or in a hospital.
Surgery: This is the treatment for people who have not noticed any betterment in any of the treatments. There are two kinds of surgeries.
A surgery where local anaesthesia is used and the skin of the armpit is cut open, that which contains the sweat glands or a surgery called sympathectomy is done where a few nerves which manage the sweat glands are cut in the palms and the armpits. In this surgery general anaesthesia is used.
Precautions:
There are various things that could be done so as to get the levels of sweat down. Under listed are a few things you could follow in case the condition is mild or could also help along with a treatment:
Avoid wearing fabrics that show the sweat,
Regular baths,
Wear clothes that are a little loose around the armpit,
Avoid taking food that is too spicy or even avoid very hot places as this would lead to sweating,
Socks should be changed regularly,
Diet also plays a significant role as there could be foods that make you sweat more than what you would otherwise, and this is different for all,
Using different pairs of shoes alternatively,
Thoroughly dry your feet whenever washed, and
You could even relax yourself like try yoga as it could reduce the stress levels.
