Journey Back to The Great Wall of China

China is a notable country which extends a thousand miles from the deserts in the west to the ocean in the east. A must-see place when travelling to China is its Great Wall. Tourists are captivated not only by its historical significance but also by its architectural grandeur.

The Great Wall of China is a collection of interconnected walls that was constructed by different dynasties and warlords thousands of years ago. Several barracks and signal towers were built on hilltops not just to provide storage of weapons but also to serve as a communication channel between the army units. They were able to call for reinforcements and signal an entry of invaders. The first set of independent walls was built during the time of the Quin Dynasty to keep the Mongol nomads out of China and protect the Chinese Empire. The Great Wall was built as a defensive fortification over three dynasties: Quin, Zhao, and Yan. In the later dynasties, the Wall was developed through constant renovations and extensions. In 1987, UNESCO legally proclaimed the Great Wall of China as a World Heritage Site.

There are four popular sites of the majestic Great Wall of China: Badaling, Mutianya, Simatai, and Shixiaguan. The Badaling site is located nearest to Beijing so it attracts most of the tourists.

Aside from its historical essence, the Great Wall of China provides tourists with a remarkable experience while exploring the majestic wall. Visiting the Great Wall is just like journeying back in history.
