Key Skills – Problem Solving

Problem solving is one of the three wider key skills. These skills are not tied to a specific subject, but rather focus on developing you as a person and giving you skills that can be applied to all areas of life, whether at school or as part of the wide world when you leave school.

The key skills course of problem solving aims to help you by looking at problems on a wider level than just finding a solution. You will come to realise that there are often many solutions to a problem, and what is actually important is to look at the process of problem solving, where you will naturally then arrive at one or more possible solutions and be able to calmly choose the best option rather than blindly jumping for the first solution you see.

You then will look at how to do a bit of retrospective assessing, to identify ways of checking that you did actually solve the problem, things you could have done to make the solution easier or perhaps double checking that you did indeed choose the best solution. All in all this course will leave you with a strong skill set that will come in useful in many areas of life, whether it is working out how to get from A to B, or whether it is something more complex like how to juggle money to get more than one bill paid; definitely good life skills to have.
