Martian Child

This film was a good one in that it seemed like one where the premise could be very real world. How often do many of us do things to quell our loneliness – things that when exposed to the light of day may not be a very good idea,

John Cusack stars in this movie as a recently widowed writer of popular science fiction who is still reeling from the death of his wife. He’s alone in the world now, and it’s an experience he doesn’t particularly like the taste of. So what does he do, Something that is probably not a good idea for a recent widower with no child-rearing experience. He decides to adopt a six-year-old boy and get himself a new buddy in the process. Seems like a good idea, right, Not quite.

The kid he adopts, Bobby Coleman, hits this hardened science fiction writer with a new one. He claims to be from Mars. Well, of course, dad isn’t that stupid. He dismisses his claims as the product of a young child’s over-developed imagination. But then things start to happen – things the new and inexperienced dad can’t explain away with simple logic. Odd events begin to take place and slowly dad begins to take a fresh look at his newly adopted son. Could he really be from Mars,

This film is funny and witty, and most important of all it shows how the meeting of one person’s need could actually satisfy the wants of two distinct individuals. I enjoyed this film simply for the way it was done. It took a totally ridiculous premise and turned it into something strange and wonderful. And that’s exactly what I like a movie to do for me.
