New Deal

You may have heard the term ‘New Deal’ bandied about; however this shouldn’t really affect you at this stage. If you think carefully about your path through GCSE and the end of formal education, then you hopefully will not need help from the New Deal scheme.

However the economic climate can be bumpy and subject to change, and during periods of high unemployment when you are competing for jobs against adults who have more experience and qualifications, you may find getting a job after school to be quite difficult. New Deal is a government scheme, running though the local job centres and can help people that are long term unemployed and struggling to find work.

They also try very hard to help people who have disabilities or other issues which again is making finding a job much harder than it might normally be. If you apply for benefits, the New Deal programme becomes compulsory and you can be penalised by losing some of the benefits if you don’t take part when asked. It is actually a valuable use of time, so should you find yourself in a situation where you are offered this, do take it as they can teach you new skills that will really benefit you in the long run. They offer to teach skills that make you more confident and will help your application stand head and shoulders above others, giving you a much better chance to get that all important interview.
