No time to shop? Buy an online mattress.

Buying A Mattress Online

Time is at a premium these days, and there is not always as much space in our lives to visit a lot of stores to do research before we purchase things like bedroom furniture. In the case of mattresses, ideally its best to actually sit on or lie on one before making a decision, but that’s not always possible as online shopping may be the most convenient option. And, of course, there are savings to be made through the internet, too.

In this article we’ll look at how to decide what is the best mattress, and things to consider when buying it online.

It’s important to buy the best mattresses as having the wrong ones can be detrimental to our health. We spend a third of our lives in bed, so its worth investing time and money to find the right mattress. A bad night’s sleep can mean we wake up feeling drained, or with aches and pains that can last throughout the day. Already existing pain can be made worse if we sleep on an unsuitable mattress. Also, whilst we sleep our cells are regenerated and muscle tissue developed, allowing our bodies to recharge.

The most common types of mattress are open spring, pocket spring, memory foam, and latex. Also known as continuous or open coil, open spring mattresses contain a long piece of metal wire coiled into springs, with a border rod or wire to provide structure and maintain shape. Pocket spring mattresses are made from small springs in their own pocket of fabric, so each one moves independently, thus providing more support than an open spring mattress. There are soft, medium and firm versions and they are more breathable than latex or memory foam mattresses so good for those who get hot in the night. If the mattress is for two people the separate springs will provide for their different needs and weights, too.

Memory foam mattresses are made from a mouldable material that responds to weight and temperature and also have hypo-allergenic properties, so will adapt to the shape of the body, absorb its weight and relieve pressure on the joints. Ideal for sleepers who suffer from a bad back or require support, they will keep posture and help align the spine. Latex mattresses are filled with latex foam, which is a very breathable material meaning overheating at night is minimised. This material is also very durable and is a good option for people with asthma or allergies.

Then buyers have to think about how firm they want the mattress to be – this depends on individual preferences and can also be determined by how people sleep. Factors such as height and weight should be considered too. People who change positions during the night or sleep on their side are best suited to a soft mattress as the way we sleep already relieves pressure from the spine, so a mattress that moulds to the body’s natural position is ideal.

Medium soft mattresses are also a good idea for those who change their sleeping position overnight as they will mould to the body position but also give a little bit more support. People who sleep on their backs need extra lower back support, so they should think about a medium firm mattress and for those who sleep on their front a firm mattress is best. This is because it will keep the back in a comfortable and stable position without the sleeper sinking into the mattress.

Buying a mattress online can be cheaper and more convenient than visiting a store, but its always best to try before you buy. Some people will test out mattresses, then go home and see if there are any good deals to be had via the internet on their favourite. However, it is possible to buy a good mattress through the web without sampling first, but there are a few things to think about, such as finding out what the best brands are and reading customer reviews. Also, establish what the delivery costs and return options are, too. Bed in a box mattress are becoming more popular and are vacuum-packed into a box and delivered to the door. Many of these manufacturers offer a sleep trial of around ten weeks, and if it isn’t suitable, it can be sent back for a full refund, or the manufacturer may collect it from the home free of charge.

There is a lot to consider when buying a mattress online, but with the right research, finding the best mattress should be easy.
