Powis Castle

Location: Welshpool, Powys

Powis Castle is set on a rocky hill over looking Welshpool. It was erected over 700 years ago and has been constantly occupied ever since. Its famous Italian landscaped gardens and opulent rooms containing a collection of priceless paintings and antique furnishings, make it one of the most dramatic places to marry. Its elevated position set against the splendour of the Powys hills and the castle’s dramatic sculptures and ornate terraces makes this venue an ideal backdrop for the wedding photographs.

At Powis you have the choice of five rooms to celebrate your special day, from the warm and friendly Clive Museum which holds 15 people, to the 200 year old Ballroom catering for 100 guests. You can also make use of the Orangery, the Housekeeper’s Parlour and the Restaurant. All are licensed to celebrate weddings and civil partnerships.

To accommodate your travelling guests there are a number of smart, family run hotels and country homes within easy reach of Welshpool, while this popular, rural tourist destination provides more than enough places to keep them busy over the weekend.

Powis Castle is situated south east of Welshpool, directly on the Welsh English border and easily accessible from all directions. For the Midlands and the North you can either take the A483 from Chester or the A458 Shrewsbury road. Those travelling north should use the M5 – M54 to Shrewsbury or take the scenic rural A483 from South Wales. Train travellers can reach Welshpool on the Mid Wales line, from where it is only 1.5 miles to the castle.
