Rabbit Training

Rabbits are very intelligent creatures that can be trained to do a number of fun things. Many people train their rabbit to use a litter box in order to keep their cage cleaner. This can be extremely beneficial since it makes cage maintenance much better and faster. It also keeps all waste in one designated area so it does not become distributed throughout their bedding. Rabbits prefer to go to the bathroom in the same single area. Create a toilet box within their cage or hutch. Place some wood shavings in the box. It’s better to use some that have already been soiled so they can smell that the area is a toilet area.

Once your rabbit begins using his bathroom area he will likely continue to do so permanently. It doesn’t take much to litter train a rabbit so make sure to start while he is young. It will be much easier than trying to teach an older rabbit that has never been litter trained.

Rabbits can be taught voice commands as well. If you are very patient with them they can learn their name and come to you when called by it. Try teaching your rabbit some simple tricks by rewarding them with a treat like a juicy carrot. It’s not so different from training any other kind of animal. Always be very gentle and patient with your rabbit during training. You don’t want to do anything that might frighten or upset him. Training your rabbit takes some time and initiative but it can be done.
