Special K Diet

According to the claims on the cereal box, the Special K diet can help dieters lose up to 6 pounds in 2 weeks. The diet involves eating a bowl of Special K cereal with half a cup of low fat milk for lunch and dinner, followed by a nutritionally balanced meal. Dieters remain on the diet for two weeks and can snack on fruit, vegetables, or Special K cereal bars. The weight loss claims of the Special K diet were backed up by a university research study in which scientists found that 75% of the participants lost weight and had slimmer hips and waists after a two week period on the diet. According to research scientists, the average caloric consumption on this diet was 1590 for women and most women reported a decrease in their normal food intake of about 27%. The “secret” to the Special K diet is clearly the fact that dieters ate less food on this diet plan.
The simplicity of this diet plan appeals to many dieters and there are numerous other scientific studies that seem to indicate that people who eat cereal for breakfast tend to have a lower body mass index (BMI) than those who skip breakfast. Nutritionists express some concerns as to whether dieters can stick with a diet this monotonous. In addition, Special K is based on refined grains and is not a good source of fibre. Many dieticians feel that dieters might regain weight lost on this diet quickly when the two week period ends.
