They are the English Springer Spaniel and the Welsh Springer Spaniel.

The English Springer Spaniel makes a fine gun dog. They are very good at flushing game out of their hiding spots. When they sense that their prey is nearby, they will run after the animal, barking and startling it. The prey will leave their hiding place, exposing themselves to the hunter. The hunter will then dispatch the animal. English Springer Spaniels are also good at retrieving. When they have noticed that a hunter has made his kill, the dog will look to his owner for further instruction. When signalled, the English Springer Spaniel will retrieve the animal in its jaw and bring it to the hunter without harming the carcass. English Springer Spaniels have been around since at least the seventeenth century.

The Welsh Springer Spaniel originates from Wales, which is where the breed got its name. For a long time, it was known as the Welsh Spaniel and then the Welsh Cocker before it became known as the Welsh Springer Spaniel. This dog has been around for hundreds of years. It originally came to the United States during the nineteenth century. Welsh Springer Spaniels look very similarly to the English variety. The Springer Spaniel averages a height between 43 and 48 centimetres and a weight between 16 and 20 kilograms. These proportions make them a small to medium-size dog breed.
