The word Alamo, the Spanish version of cottonwood, is named in recognition of their fatherland, Alamo de Parras, Coahuila. For many people, the battle of the Alamo is remembered as heroic struggles versus impossible odds. It is believed to be a place where people made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom.

Today, the Alamo is considered to be one of the best spots where parents and kids, or the whole family, can go for a visit. More than 2.5 million people every year visit the 4.2 acre complex. Most of them come to see the old mission where a small band of Texans endured a 13-day battle against General Antonio López de Santa Anna’s army. The Alamo is situated on Alamo Plaza in downtown San Antonio, Texas, representing almost 300 years of history. The Alamo has three buildings: the Shrine, Gift Museum, and Long Barrack Museum. These buildings house exhibits on the history and revolution of Texas. Furthermore, visitors are allowed to stroll through the stunning and attractive Alamo gardens.
