Classic movies were much more happy go lucky affairs than today’s movie spectrum but there were still villains, ruthless ones who would do whatever it took to get what they wanted. Here are the top ten.

10. Professor Fate – The Great Race
He’s intelligent and witty but he has a scheme going, the worst type of villain.

9. Bert Gordon – The Hustler
George C. Scott played an absolute jerk and refused to back down to a better player.

8. Baby Jane Hudson – Whatever Happened to Baby Jane,
The whole concept is crazy.

7. Auric Goldfinger – Goldfinger
Smart, handsome, obsessed with gold. He’s the perfect villain and counterpart to James Bond. Goldfinger alone makes this film one of the best Bond films of all time.

6. Harry Lime – The Third Man
Orson Welles is calculating and manipulative. He makes his friend come under false pretences.

5. Count Dracula – Dracula
He looks scary, he does terrible things and he lives in a creepy, haunted, dark mansion. Do I really need to explain this further,

4. Tony Wendice – Dial M for Murder
He wants to have his wife killed. He’s calculating and dangerous while maintaining a perfectly normal and happy demeanour. Creepy.

3. Frankenstein’s Monster – Frankenstein
He’s a creature and comes out at midnight during a rainstorm. How scary is that, It’s terrifying!

2. The Wicked Witch – The Wizard of Oz
She’s terrifying. Every child was in fear of her and even as she melted away was still afraid she might somehow come back and get poor Dorothy.

1. Norman Bates – Psycho
He’s definitely a psycho!
