Top 10 Jimmy Stewart Movie Lines

Jimmy Stewart was one of the best classic film actors. He was the everyday man who made us laugh, cry and feel something honest and human again. He made a lot of wonderful movies, with some terrific dialogue, but we narrowed it down to his top ten lines, here they are.

10. ‘Dear Father in heaven, I’m not a praying man, but if you can hear me, show me the way…show me the way.’
From ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’

Asking for help in a time of desperation, most of us have been there at one point or another.

9. ‘You shouldn’t keep souvenirs of a killing. You shouldn’t have been that sentimental.’
From ‘Vertigo’

What, You have to hear this one a few times before it really makes sense. What an odd killer huh, One who keeps souvenirs.

8. ‘If we don’t try we don’t do. And if we don’t do, what are we on this earth for,’
From ‘Shenandoah’

Couldn’t have said it any better myself. What is the meaning of life, Ask Jimmy Stewart.

7. ‘I shot the wrong rabbit!’
From ‘The Stratton Story’

This is hysterical in context, because he shoots himself instead.

6. ‘There’s a little bit of envy in the best of us and that’s too bad.’
From ‘Harvey’

There is envy in everyone, but I’m not sure that it is always a bad thing. Sometimes it is good, because it shows that you still care enough to worry about someone else and wanting them to be yours. However, most envy is bad and on that note I would agree with good old Harvey.

5. ‘Sometimes you’re so beautiful it just gags me.’
From ‘You Can’t Take It With You’

Quite an odd reaction to seeing beauty, but very humorous.

4. ‘I see. Yeah, that’s probably the first thing you noticed about me that you liked – my colossal brain.’
From ‘You Can’t Take It With You’

Again, a funny reaction to attraction. The brain, yes intelligence is attractive, but he’s right, it’s not visible.

3. ‘Liberty is too precious to be buried in books. Men should hold it up in front of them every single day of their lives and say, “I’m free”.’
From ‘Mr. Smith Goes To Washington’

So true. Especially nowadays, when so many take it all for granted.

2. ‘I wouldn’t give you two cents for all your fancy rules if behind them they didn’t have a little bit of plain ordinary everyday kindness, and a little looking out for the other fellow, too.’
From ‘Mr. Smith Goes To Washington’

It’s all about one human being connecting with another human being. What are we if we don’t have each other,

1. ‘What is it you want, Mary, What do you want, You want the moon, Just say the word and I’ll throw a lasso around it and pull it down. Hey. That’s a pretty good idea. I’ll give you the moon, Mary.’
From ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’

One of the best movies of all time and a very romantic scene from that movie. A true gentleman at work.
