Choosing an outfit for the mother of the bride

The bridal gown will be the focus of the day, but also the outfits and dresses of the bridesmaids and the mother of the bride will receive a lot of attention. Where the bride and her bridesmaids tend to follow a theme when picking their attire, the mother of the bride will traditionally opt for a more formal outfit keeping in line with guests attending.
Although the look will be formal, the mother of the bride should still try to co-ordinate colours to complement the wedding theme. When choosing an outfit for the mother of the bride, factors such as season, style and colour all need to be taken into account. There is no rule set in stone stating that the mother of the bride cannot match the bride and bridesmaids – this is down to the personal preference of the bride. Sometimes brides wish their mother to be well matched whilst others prefer that she select her own formal outfit that blends with the theme.
The main things to remember when choosing a colour is to make sure it is a shade that suits the mother of the bride and which will look good in the wedding photographs, is not exactly the same colour the bride is wearing and furthermore is not white or ivory as the mother of the bride’s outfit should not attempt to upstage that of her daughter.
